Originally from Cholet, I arrived at the end of September Niort for a long-term internship at the tourist office. Little by little I discovered the city, its particularities and of course its bronze dragons.

Why dragons to Niort ? I had never really asked myself the question. Until I was asked to write an article for the blog on legend of the dragon Niort.

An appointment is made along the Weaned It front of Halles Wednesday April 23 at 15 p.m., with Agnes Brillatz, conferral guide. The visit is entitled “The legend of the dragon told to children”. Despite the weather not being in our favor, the little adventurers are present and equipped with their umbrellas, ready to discover the smallest secrets of this legend. From Agnès' first words, we put ourselves in the shoes of Sherlock Homes. We go back through the city following the “little heads” of golden dragon hidden on the ground.

Once dragons in sight, the children rush towards them to touch them, count the number of rings they have, climb on them... After almost an hour of visiting, it is time to regroup and sit facing the dragons to discover one of the versions of the legend of the dragon.

A monster living in a cave in the marsh near the Porte Saint Jean is terrorizing the people of Niort. Agnès then takes out of her bag a golden dragon made of wood for the greatest pleasure of children. Jacob Allonneau, knight, then decides to kill this monster. He goes to the monster's cave and slashes him with his sword. Believing him to be dead, he takes off his helmet and approaches the beast which bites him. The knight then dies, poisoned by this last burst of the golden dragon. The children are then asked to repeat the legend.

After this little story, we are all invited to bite into the golden dragon ! That’s good, it’s almost snack time! Oh no, that's not it... The children must draw the golden dragon and they put their whole heart into it. Some represent the golden dragon with wings, others with the cry of this one…

Curious ? You want to know more ? Here is the informations. Agnès Brillatz organizes visits to the legend of the dragon for children all year round by reservation. Adults are of course invited to participate. Visits are offered in parallel on the same theme. The next visits take place on Tuesday April 29 at 10 a.m. and Sunday May 4 at 15 p.m. Do not hesitate to consult the Agnès Brillatz website, the list of visits is regularly updated.
