Le Niort industrial heritage will be highlighted again after the exhibition on the Brenet brushworks. The room Théophile Boinot, within the Dryer building will be reborn with his past.
Now for the exhibition on Niort chamois and glove making and its manufacturing techniques from September 15 until the end of December.
Photographs, films, works, explanatory texts and testimonies will open the doors to you this Niort know-how now gone!
This exhibition is revealed for the very first time during the European Heritage Days 2023.
In addition and especially on the occasion of Heritage Days and to enhance the visit route, Free activities will be offered upon registration (from 12 years old).

A little reminder about Niort chamois and gloves
This is Charente, Charente-Maritime, Vienne but especially in the department of Deux-Sèvres that, at the end of the 19thnd century there are numerous skin processing factories due to the industrialization of the activity. Meeting Madame Rimbaud in preview
Madame Rimbaud will come and tell her memories during the weekend of European Heritage Days on the occasion of the launch of the exhibition. But who is Madame Rimbaud? In preview, Let’s go meet him!
#1: Can you introduce yourself in a few lines?
I introduce myself: Francette Rimbaud. I was born in Niort in 1945. By producing this testimony during the heritage days on the occasion of this exhibition which is particularly close to my heart, I wanted pay tribute to my grandfather.
#2: Who is Mr. Auguste Mercier to you?
Mr. Auguste Mercier is my maternal grandfather.
#3: Can you tell us about him in a few lines, as a preview of the testimony that you will deliver during the European Heritage Days?
My grandfather was born in 1897 in Candé, in Maine-et-Loire. He married Niort and lived on Rue de la Blauderie. He was a truck driver then in 1940, he hires atBoinot factory to 1963. He worked at treatment of chamois skins. With his lifting tractor, he took them drying and storage.
#4: Tell me one of your most memorable memories with him related to chamois and gloves?
With my grandmother, we would walk to the port and wait for him to get off work at the factory with his bike.
