Discover the stone port of Bessines.
Step 2
The hermit Caprais, a little-known saint, became the first bishop of Agen in the 4th century. Bessines is the only church in the diocese of Poitiers placed under this name.
Listed as a Historic Monument, it was mentioned for the first time in a charter in 988. The monument was restored several times. In 1982, following damage caused by bad weather, the building was restored, then returned to worship in 1986.

These little green men, 86 cm high, installed on the town's water network (fountains spewing water through all body orifices) respond to a public order for street furniture, reflecting the close link existing between the market gardener and the Marais Poitevin and are also present all over the world. They are made by the artist Fabrice Hyber(t) (Luçon, 1961-). There were 6 sculptures in 2011, but only 3 are still in the town, including 2 on your route!
