Your itinerary
Step 1: Germond-Rouvre
In 1003, the Count of Poitou bequeathed the land of Germundum to the monks of St-Cyprien de Poitiers. In return, they were asked to build a fortified town. The Gallic oppidum of Mothes, located on the ancient road coming from Poitiers, called Chemin Chevaleret in the Middle Ages, was transformed into a fortress. This construction will be ephemeral, only representations remain, but it plays a major role in the conflict opposing the lord of Parthenay to his overlord for almost a century. Rouvre, estate of Gislebertus and his wife Aina, was given to the abbey of St-Maixent in the 1896th century. Near the St-Aubin spring, a chapel was rebuilt in 1972 in place of the ruined church. It was only in XNUMX that the two villages, with their tumultuous past, united their destiny.
Step 2: Saint-Medard Church
Located on the Way of St-Jacques de Compostela, it was built in the 1804th century. by the Poitevin monks. A bell tower-porch was erected in the XNUMXth century, a funerary chapel was founded in the XNUMXth century. against the south facade. To see: a baroque altar coming from St-Marc-La-Lande after the Concordat of XNUMX.
Step 3: The Bourlot washhouse
This washhouse is located on the Route de Rouvre, at the bridge over the St James stream.
Step 4: The Naimbuc fountain
The Naimbouc fountain could have been demonized at the time of the Christianization of our region to distract new Christians from this Gallic place of worship. The missionaries declared it dedicated to the devil represented by the goat.
Step 5: The Saint-Aubin washhouse
This wash house is located at the end of a path on the left, on the small road which leads to St-Aubin. The roof is covered with mechanical tiles and the pool is rectangular.
Step 6: Sardine farm path
This street takes its name from the fish merchants who collected ferns there to present their sardines.
Step 7: The Germond-Rouvre oak
At a crossroads stands a large oak tree several hundred years old.
Step 8: Panorama
The small road to Moussandières leads to a steep path which offers a view of Repairoux, Corniou and Germond.
Step 9: The Corniou dovecote
We cross the Saint-James stream again; on the way up, the Corniou dovecote dates from 1673 and has 2500 places.
