Tourism in “Niort – Marais Poitevin”!

The Niortais Urban Community, created on January 1, 2014, now has 40 Commons in 2023 following the recent creation of the new municipalities of Plaine d'Argenson (merger of Belleville, Buffers, Prissé-la-Charriere et Saint-Etienne-la-Cigogne on January 1, 2018) and Val-du-Mignon (grouping in 2019 of Priaries, usseau et Thorigny-sur-le-Mignon). In terms of tourism, this territory is mainly organized around:

  • of a destination “nature” with strong notoriety, the Poitevin marsh
  • of a central city, Niort, which is establishing itself as a destination for short stays (pleasure tourism)
  • an business tourism linked to the economic dynamism of local businesses.

In addition to these tourism anchor points, the community territory is structured around Sèvre Niortaise and rural villages (Chipped, Mauze-sur-le-Mignon…) concentrating accommodation and services, know-how and historical heritage. It also benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic coast, But also important tourist sites such as La Rochelle, Puy du Fou and Futuroscope.

Finally, for several years, great discovery routes (Francette bike, Way of Saint-Jacques de Compostela, GR 36) make it possible to insert it into a regional-scale approach.
