Abbaye de Nieul-sur-l'Autise

At the heart of a Small City of Character, the Abbey of Nieul-sur-l'Autise is an architectural jewel of exceptional quality, highlighted and managed by the Department of Vendée. Founded in 1068, the abbey was granted the status of royal abbey in 1141 by Eleanor of Aquitaine, then Queen of France. It presents one of the rare Poitevin monastic complexes almost intact with its three elements including the only Romanesque cloister in the West preserved in its entirety.
