Château du Coudray-Salbart

Coudray-Salbart Castle is a 13th century military fortress.
Rich architecture: rooms in an exceptional state of preservation with varied architectural styles.
A defense system comprising a peripheral sheath (corridor inside the curtain walls) of which there are only a few examples in Europe.
A mysterious story whose construction dates back to 1202/1204. Listed as a Historic Monument, it has been the focus of attention of the Friends of Château Salbart since 1961. The Niortais Urban Community, owner since 2000, has carried out major restorations in this jewel of military architecture, which has been very little altered, following the rescue by volunteer work (1978-2002).
