This small rural town, located in the heart of the plain, between Poitou and Saintonge, is crossed to the north by the Marmais stream and to the south by the Courance. Cited for the first time in the 13th century, it belonged to the castellany of Chizé, then to the marquisate of Fors. The village, grouped around its Romanesque church, completely remodeled over the centuries, today retains its agricultural vocation.
