Le Puits d'Enfer
About
On the outskirts of Saint-Maixent-l'Ecole, this steep site is listed for its landscape and environmental qualities, as well as for its picturesque and legendary character. The rocky outcrops are home to some remarkable flora. A path leads to the heart of nature, beside a stream and its waterfall. Legend has it that a farmer who crossed the tumultuous waters with his cart was swept away and disappeared forever in "le Puits d'Enfer".
